Alternative Livelihoods: Beekeeping

We must achieve the change that will properly protect the Sui River Forest Reserve, the last refuge of the Critically Endangered Giant Squeaker Frog (Athroleptis krokosua), saving it from global extinction, including developing new livelihoods such as beekeeping. Our 2016 Whitley Award project not only laid the foundations for our understanding of the Giant Squeaker Frog, but also allowed us to develop key relationships and build strong community support.

Our existing beekeeping site is the Yawkrom community. With technical support from the UK’s charity Bees Abroad, and individual local and international beekeepers, we continue to work towards increasing bee colonization
